Fort Recovery School Board

FORT RECOVERY - Michelle R. Vaughn was named principal of Fort Recovery Elementary School Monday night during a special school board meeting.

Originally from Jay County, she has taught at Fort Recovery Elementary for the past seven years. She also taught at Judge Haynes Elementary School in Portland for four years.

She has taught special education as well as first and fourth grade classes.

A 1991 graduate of Jay County High School, Vaughn, 33, received her bachelor's degree from Ball State University in 1994 and her master's of education degree in 2003 from Wright State University.

She succeeds Nancy Knapke, who is retiring effective Dec. 1.

"I learned from the best," Vaughn said this morning. "Nancy has been an outstanding mentor to me. I want to continue the success we have (at Fort Recovery Elementary)."

The daughter of Joe and Sharon Dues of rural Portland, Vaughn is a former varsity track coach at both JCHS and Fort Recovery High School. The past two years she has coached track at the middle school level.

"I'm so excited to take this next step in my career and do it here at Fort Recovery," said Vaughn. "It's been my dream."[[In-content Ad]]
