Veteran zoning rep retiring (12/05/05)
Jay County Commissioners
By By MARY ANN LEWIS-
A longtime member of two county zoning boards told Jay County Commissioners this morning he is resigning.
“I’ve been on this long enough,” Jerry Thornburg told commissioners.
Thornburg, a rural Pennville resident, was a member of both the Jay County Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. His resignation is effective Dec. 31.
He was appointed to the county offices in the early 1990s when Jay County adopted the zoning ordinances.
Thornburg also cited seasonal time conflicts with serving.
“I need to be at the meetings and I’m not going to shut down in the field to come to the meeting,” he told commissioners Milo Miller Jr. and Gary Theurer. Faron Parr was ill and was not at today’s meeting.
“We appreciate all you’ve done for us,” Theurer said.
“This will give you time to get somebody else,” Thornburg told commissioners.
Also today, commissioners gave Jay Circuit Court Judge Brian Hutchison the go-ahead to purchase two computers for the probation department. The equipment will be purchased from Computer Systems Inc. at a total cost of $3,698.
Hutchison cited a memo from the Indiana Judicial Center noting the requirements for minimum equipment for the operation of the National Adult Compact Information System.
Money for the purchase would be taken from fees collected from Probation User Fees.
Commissioners also signed an operations agreement with LifeStream Services Inc. for 2006 operations of The New InterUrban. Mark Yaudas, manager of logistics for Lifestream, submitted the organization’s budget for 2006.
The five-county transportation program has an operating budget of $1,127,015 for next year.
The county annually budgets money for the program and serves as the fiscal agent.[[In-content Ad]]
