Vogel 1st in Mercer (08/30/06)

COLDWATER, Ohio - Mindy Vogel means business.
The Fort Recovery junior finished second out of more than 140 runners at the Celina Rotary Invitational Saturday, then did herself one better Tuesday. Vogel won the Mercer County title, dominating the race at Coldwater by more than 40 seconds.
The Indian girls finished in third place with 76 points, 13 back of runner-up Marion Local. The host Cavaliers won with 42 points.
Vogel went unchallenged, easily taking first place ahead of Celina's Melissa Roth. Although Roth sliced two seconds off her time from Saturday's race on her home course at 21-minutes, 20.1 seconds, Vogel easily ran away with the championship in a time of 20:39.9.
Sophomore Tina Roessner was also outstanding, giving the Indians two runners in the top three. She was well ahead of Coldwater's Ashley Kanney (21:43) and Allison Honigford (21:57) in taking third place in 21:26.9.
Sam Bihn placed 17th for the Indians in 23:06, Amber Heitkamp was 27th in 24:07 and Sam Staugler capped the team score in 45th in 26:19.
Also running for the Tribe were Melissa Tobe (48th - 26:59) and Kelsey Brockman (49th - 27:00).
Junior high
Fort Recovery won the junior high boys title and finished second in the girls competition at Coldwater.
The Tribe boys won the Mercer County championship with 30 points as St. Henry (42) placed second. The girls were second behind champion Coldwater (32) with 51 points.
St. Henry took the top two spots in the boys race, but a string of Indians followed. Alan Vogel was third in 12:47 with Ryan Heitkamp fourth at 12:57, Caleb Heitkamp fifth in 13:03 and Mathias Koester sixth with a time of 13:26.
Derek Rammel finished off the Tribe title by placing 13th in 14:19.
Fort Recovery's girls had two runners in the top 10, led by Alexis Sutter in fourth at 14:02.
Nicole Heitkamp was 10th in 14:33, followed by Abby Huelskamp in 11th with a time of 14:41. They were followed by Claire Wendel in 13th with a time of 14:59 and Michelle Evers in 21st at 15:23.[[In-content Ad]]
