FRHS cross country
EATON - Saturday was typical for the Fort Recovery Indians.
Mindy Vogel turned in another career-best time and recorded another runner-up finish. She led the Indians to a score of 144 points to finish in fourth place at the Eaton Invitational.
Minster won the 14-team event with 30 points, followed by Fort Loramie (77) and Ansonia (129).
Vogel slaughtered her previous best time by more than 30 seconds as she ran with Brigitte Sherman of Minster, who finished 19th in the state last year. She crossed the line less than a second behind Sherman (19-minutes, 21.11 seconds) with a time of 19:22.03.
The junior has finished first or second in each of the Tribe's six meets this year.
Tina Roessner was second for Fort Recovery (47-18), finishing 14th out of 96 runners. She held off New Bremen's Amber Niekamp by two seconds as she finished in 20:32.61.
Sam Bihn took 27th in 22:02, Amber Heitkamp was 43rd in 23:10.39 and Sam Staugler finished the Tribe team score in 26:10.
Also running for the Indians were Kelsey Brockman (73rd - 26:36) and Melissa Tobe (87th - 29:03).
Junior high
Fort Recovery's girls team took sixth out of 21 teams with a score of 189, and the boys were 10th out of 27 with 248.
Minster won the girls race with 50, followed by Kings (68). Kings took first in the boys competition with 105 points, and Eaton was second with 120.
Caleb Heitkamp had the top finish for the junior high Indians, placing 28th out of 199 runners in the boys race in 12:47. Ryan Heitkamp was four seconds behind him in 30th at 12:51.
Nicole Heitkamp paced the Indian girls with a 35th-place finish in 13:58.
Alexis Sutter and Abby Huelskamp were 39th and 40th in 14:07 and 14:09 respectively.
Finishing the boys team score were Mathias Koester (48th - 13:09), Alan Vogel (50th - 13:10) and Derek Rammel (111th - 13:54). Behind Huelskamp for the girls were Claire Wendel (42nd - 14:13) and Abby Sudhoff (53rd - 14:40).
Fort Recovery's girls placed fifth in the JV race, led by Mariah Koester in 20th at 14:59. Adam Pohl was the top runner for the Indians in the JV boys race in 17th at 14:25.[[In-content Ad]]
