FORT LORAMIE, Ohio - Runners in Ohio should be getting used to watching Mindy Vogel run. She's always at the front of the pack.

Vogel scored another runner-up finish Tuesday, leading the Fort Recovery girls cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Fort Loramie Invitational.

The Indians scored 145 points at the 11-team event, finishing behind Versailles (39), the host Redskins (73), Coldwater (98) and Ansonia (127). They are 37-15 overall in five races this year.

Vogel, a junior, ran yet another strong race, finishing second behind Mary Prakel of Versailles in 20-minutes, 10 seconds. She has finished no lower than second this season, with championships at the Mercer County Meet and the Spencerville Invitational and runner-up efforts at the Celina Invitational and the Greenville Invitational.

Prakel, a freshman who also finished ahead of Vogel at Greenville, crossed the line in 19:58.

Tina Roessner gave the Indians a second runner in the top 20. The sophomore was just behind Taylor Jeannette (21:20) and Maggie Dade (21:21.39) of Graham as she finished in 21:21.39.

Sam Bihn finished 33rd in 22:36, Amber Heitkamp was 56th with a time of 23:56 and Sam Staugler completed the Tribe team score in 104th at 26:40. Melissa Tobe was 116th in a time of 28:04.

Junior high

Fort Recovery's boys ran in a tight pack, putting four runners in the top 20 as it finished third out of 11 teams with a score of 101. The Tribe girls team also posted a third-place finish in their 10-team field with 113 points.

Russia (28) won the boys competition ahead of Botkins (81), and Versailles (46) was first among the girls with Coldwater (61) in second.

Ryan Heitkamp led the group of Fort Recovery boys, as the team finished ahead of Midwest Athletic Conference rivals New Bremen (fourth), Versailles (fifth) and Coldwater (11th). He crossed the line in 12:59 for 14th place.

Caleb Heitkamp was just six seconds back as he placed 16th in 13:05. He was followed quickly by Alan Vogel in 17th at 13:06 and Mathias Koester in 19th with a time of 13:07.

Derek Rammel finished the team score for the Indians by placing 49th in 14:31.

Nicole Heitkamp paced the Fort Recovery girls in 14:17 for a 16th-place finish. Claire Wendel was 23rd in 14:38, Alexis Sutter finished 26th in 14:43 and Abby Huelskamp took 28th in 14:46.

Kelly Wendel capped the Tribe effort in 40th at 15:16.[[In-content Ad]]
