Vogel, Roessner finish 1-2 at Brookville (09/24/07)
FRHS cross country
BROOKVILLE, Ohio - The host Blue Devils defended their home turf, but just barely.
Fort Recovery High School's Mindy Vogel and Tina Roessner went back-to-back at the top of the Brookville Invitational Saturday, but the home cross country team eked out the win at the five-team event 37-38.
Marion Local was a distant third in the girls race with 71 points.
The Indian boys finished sixth out of seven teams with 166 points. St. Henry won with 52 points, finishing just ahead of the host Blue Devils (55).
Vogel just missed breaking the 20-minute mark as her first-place finish came in 20-minutes, 0.51 seconds. Roessner was solid in second place at 20:39.34 to finish more than nine seconds ahead of third-place Reba Leonhard of Brookville, which put four runners in the top eight.
Fort Recovery had three in the top 10 as senior Sam Bihn came through in 10th place at 22:27. The Tribe's pair of freshman added consecutive finishes to round out the team score, with Alexis Sutter 12th at 22:32. Abby Huelskamp placed 13th in 22:40, holding off Ashley Dirksen of Marion Local by 1.5 seconds.
Ryan Heitkamp topped the FRHS boys team as his time of 18:52.41 put him in 22nd place. Alan Vogel was 32nd at 19:41, and Caleb Heitkamp finished 36th in 19:52.
Zach Guggenbiller was 60th in 22:48, and Aaron Will finished 63rd in 23:44.
Also running for the Indian girls were: Amber Heitkamp (20th - 23:08), Casey Backs (21st - 23:14), Abby Sudhoff (22nd - 23:15), Kelly Wendel (35th - 24:23), Alison Tobe (41st - 25:11), Hilary Pottkotter (43rd - 25:14), Claire Wendel (47th - 26:01) and Tami Link (60th - 29:22).

Fort Recovery's girls team finished fourth out of 10 teams with 104 points, and the boys team was sixth out of 10 teams at 216. Springboro won both events.
Nicole Heitkamp turned in the top finish for the Indians, taking 10th in the girls race at 14:02. Christen Wendel was right behind Heitkamp in 14:04 for 11th.
Samantha Tobe placed 16th in 14:10, followed by Mariah Koester (23rd - 14:42) and Brenda Link (44th - 16:37).
Nathan Fullenkamp was the only Tribe boy to finish in the top 30 as he took 15th in 12:28. Mathias Koester was 34th in 13:08, and joining them were Derek Rammel (44th - 13:33), Adam Pohl (59th - 14:07) and Shawn Roessner (64th - 14:17).[[In-content Ad]]
