Vogel wins another for Fort (09/11/06)

SPENCERVILLE - Fort Recovery had another good Saturday, and Mindy Vogel earned another victory.
Vogel picked up her second win in four meets this season as the Indian girls cross country team placed third out of eight teams at the Spencerville Invitational. The host Wildcats won with 53 points, New Bremen was second with 61 and Fort Recovery took third with 81.
It was a dominant day for Vogel, who finished just one second off her career-best time despite not having much competition. She finished 15 seconds ahead of second-place Erin Calvelage of St. John's in a time of 19-minutes, 46 seconds.
Vogel also won the Mercer County title, and finished second in invitationals at Celina and Greenville.
Tina Roessner and Sam Bihn also had excellent races as Fort Recovery packed the top 12.
Roessner was sixth in a time of 20:49, 33 seconds better than New Bremen's Lori Timmerman. Bihn finished 10 seconds had of Jocelyn Hennon of Waynesfield-Goshen to take 12th in 22:44.
Kelsey Brockman finished 38th in 26 minutes, and Amber Heitkamp was 44th in 26:33. Melissa Tobe placed 50th in 27:24.
Junior high
Fort Recovery's girls and boys teams put up matching runner-up finishes, each with back-to-back efforts leading the way.
The Indian girls scored 76 points, second only to the host Wildcats' 53 in the 13-team field. Shawnee dominated the 16-team boys competition with 38 points, and Fort Recovery was second with 106.
Nicole Heitkamp was the top runner for the Tribe girls, finished just three seconds out of the top 10 at 14:05. Abby Huelskamp was just one spot behind Heitkamp's 11th-place effort as she crossed the line in 14:16.[[In-content Ad]]
