Volunteers thanked for efforts
Letters to the Editor
This community is amazing. Thanks to your massive giving hearts we were able to serve more than 450 meals to our friends and neighbors on Thanksgiving Day. The serving tables filled quickly with salads, vegetables and desserts as donations were received throughout the morning. Meanwhile in the kitchen the ovens were busy preparing the turkey, ham, pork roast, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy that would soon be enjoyed by all.
Groups of volunteers began arriving early in the day to tackle the many duties for preparing meals for the homebound. Then, right on schedule, drivers arrived to organize their routes and, with addresses in hand, headed out the door to deliver the hot meals to waiting folks at home.
Meanwhile, back in the kitchen, more volunteers arrived to slice pies and cakes and organize the food tables for the dine-in guests. As the crowd gathered, it was obvious we needed to expand our seating and more volunteers quickly set up additional tables to make room for all. What a huge celebration with lots of laughter and fellowshipping together.
When the afternoon was over, all had enjoyed a homey atmosphere with a delicious meal and ample leftovers to enjoy later. Many had won door prizes to local restaurants, groceries, pharmacies and meat markets, and all carried home the feeling of true love and brotherhood.
When people share a common vision they can accomplish the impossible - and you did just that. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all the individuals, local agencies, service clubs, lodges, businesses, sororities and churches for this heartwarming day. May your holidays be blessed as you have blessed the lives of so many.
With heartfelt thanks.
