Vormohr 4th in season opener

A Jay County High School graduate helped the Ball State University women’s swim team to a victory in its season opener.
Cori Vormohr, JCHS class of 2009, turned in a fourth-place finish Saturday as the Cardinals defeated host Evansville 162-138.
Vormohr’s best individual effort came in the 200-yard breaststroke as she posted a time of 2 minutes, 29.06 seconds for fourth place. She was fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.47.
The junior teamed with Katie Saulman, Mallory Pryzbylinski and Jackie Iglesias to finish fourth in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:46.64. She joined Elaine Pitsas, Katelyn Pratt-Collins and Saulman for a time of 1:53.12 to earn a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
Nicole Pottkotter
Fort Recovery – 2010
Recorded a kill to end the second game as the Ohio Northern University volleyball team rolled to a 25-22, 28-26, 25-16 victory Friday over John Carroll.
Pottkotter finished the win with eight kills, third-most on the team. She also had six digs and a pair of blocks.
The sophomore added one kill and one dig Tuesday as the Polar Bears fell in three games to NCAA Division III No. 5 Heidelberg.
Maddie Moore
South Adams – 2009
Assisted on the Bluffton University women’s soccer team’s lone goal Sunday in a 1-1 tie with Rose-Hulman.
The Beavers trailed for more than 75 minutes of the game before Moore assisted on a goal by Amanda Hunsberger with less than 13 minutes to play. She also attempted one shot on goal in the tie.
Frank Thien
Fort Recovery – 2009
Made one catch Saturday in the Ohio Northern University football team’s 24-21 victory over John Carroll.
Thien started at wide receiver for the Polar Bears and caught an 11-yard pass from Tyler Rue in the fourth quarter. His catch came on a second-and-8 play on a drive that led to the game-winning field goal.
Amanda Johnson
Jay County – 2008
Turned in a top-40 finish for the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s cross country team Saturday as it won the 35-team Southeast Cross Country Classic hosted by Berry.
Johnson finished the 5K race in 19 minutes, 40.84 seconds. She was 38th in a field of 310 runners.
Allison Beitler
South Adams – 2010
Ran for the Goshen College women’s cross country team, which finished 24th out of 33 squads at Saturday’s NAIA Great Lakes Challenge in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Beitler finished in 272nd with a time of 22 minutes, 41.66 seconds in the 5K event.
Sam Heckard
South Adams – 2010
Also took part in the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge, competing for the 21st-place Bethel College men’s team.
Heckard turned in a time of 31 minutes, 56.52 seconds in the 8K race to finish in 300th place.
Dalton McGill
Jay County – 2009
Played for the Trine University football team Saturday in its 28-23 loss to Hope.
