Vormohr, Johnson earn honors
Collegiate Check-up
In 2006, Alyssa Johnson and Joseph Vormohr were state qualifiers in track for Jay County High School. Now they've both earned collegiate honors in other sports.
Vormohr earned a spot on the All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference football team, and Johnson was named to a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics scholar-athlete.
Vormohr, who started at center and guard for Hanover College this year, was named to the all-HCAC second team. He was also an all-conference honoree last season.
To earn her NAIA honor, Johnson had to maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher at Taylor University. The senior, who was named the Mid-Central Conference women's cross country runner of the week twice this season, is an elementary education major.
Tyler Rigby
Jay County - 2006
Led the IU-East men's basketball team in scoring in its 98-67 loss Nov. 25 to IUPUI.
Rigby racked up 23 points against the Division I Jaguars, hitting 8-of-15 from the field and 5-of-9 from 3-point range. He also had two rebounds and two assists.
He is averaging 15 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game this year.
Tiff Gaerke
Fort Recovery - 2007
Helped the University of Dayton women's volleyball team to its 29th win of the season Friday 25-16, 20-25, 25-17, 24-26, 15-6 win over Ohio.
Gaerke finished with eight kills and a .350 kill percentage for the Flyers in the win. She also had nine digs, three blocks, two assists and an ace.
No. 23 Dayton (29-3) plays UW-Milwaukee in the opening round of the NCAA tournament tonight at 5:30 p.m. The match will be broadcast live at www.NCAA.com.
Cori Vormohr

Turned in a sixth place finish Nov. 21 as the Ball State University women's swim team won as hosts of the three-team Doug Coers Invitational.
Vormohr finished the 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 2.42 seconds to take sixth place. She was also seventh in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.25 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.31.[[In-content Ad]]
