Vormohr sets pool record at IEU

The Cardinals had already made trips to West Lafayette and Akron, Ohio, this season. But Cori Vormohr enjoyed Friday’s visit to Charleston, Ill., the most.
The 2009 Jay County High School graduate set a record and picked up her first collegiate win to help lead the Ball State University women’s swim team to a 150-108 victory over Eastern Illinois.
Vormohr’s record swim came in the 100-yard breaststroke, the event she competed in twice at the state finals while in high school. She won the race by more than a second over teammate Mackenzie Imbro with a time of 1 minute, 7.36 seconds.
She broke the pool record of 1:07.48 set last season by Andrea Longlade of Illinois-Chicago.
The senior was also the runner-up in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.79. She teamed with Jillian Bischoff, Dana Graunke and Mallory Przybylinski for a fifth-place time of 1:40.44 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Neal Fennig
Jay County – 2011
Competed for the Ball State men’s swim team Friday as it also topped Eastern Illinois, 169-93.
Fennig’s best finish came in the 200-yard freestyle as he took fifth place in 1 minute, 52.46 seconds. He also posted a time of 5:12.25 for sixth in the 500 freestyle.
Frank Thien
Fort Recovery – 2009
Finished his college career with four receptions Saturday in the Ohio Northern University football team’s 24-13 loss to Otterbein.
All four of Thien’s receptions came in the first quarter, including catches of 21 and 25 yards on the opening drive. He had 61 receiving yards in the game for the Polar Bears (4-6), helping quarterback Tate Humphrey to a career-high 324 passing yards.
The senior finished the season with 18 receptions for 419 yards and five touchdowns.
Pazia Speed
Jay County – 2010
Led the Huntington University women’s basketball team to a 66-55 victory Tuesday over Indiana Tech.
Speed turned in a perfect 8-for-8 effort at the foul line and hit a couple of 3-pointers as she led three Foresters in double figures with 18 points. She also had five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The junior had 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting, three rebounds, one assist and one steal as HU (4-0) topped Campbellsville 72-66 on Saturday.
Greg Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2010
Was won of three players to score in double figures Wednesday for the NCAA Division II No. 8 University of Findlay men’s basketball team, which dropped its season opener 90-74 to top-ranked West Liberty State.
Kahlig was 6-of-10 from the field with a 3-pointer as he totaled 14 points. He also had three rebounds, three assists and a steal for the Oilers.

Made her first career start on Nov. 9 in the University of Northwestern Ohio women’s basketball team’s 80-66 loss to Marion.
Kahlig scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds as she played 31 minutes. She also had two steals and one assist.
The freshman had a team-high eight rebounds to go along with six points Tuesday as the Racers (1-3) fell 66-55 to St. Francis.
Lindsey Wellman
Jay County – 2010
Scored six points in her collegiate debut Friday as the Ball State University women’s basketball team fell 54-45 to Evansville.
Wellman, who walked on to the team this fall after three years away from basketball, shot 2-of-4 and hit a 3-pointer for the Cardinals (0-2). She also had two rebounds.
She finished with two rebounds Tuesday as BSU lost 70-62 to Butler.
Katie Simmons
Jay County – 2012
Ran for the IPFW women’s cross country team Friday at the NCAA Division I Great Lakes Regional in Verona, Wisc.
Simmons completed the 6K race with a time of 22 minutes, 46 seconds. She was the No. 3 runner for the Mastodons, who were 26th out of 32 teams, and 137th out of 218 competitors overall.

Competed for the Calvin College women’s swim team Nov. 9 in a 149-89 loss to Wayne State.
Hudson’s best individual effort came in the 100-yard freestyle as she finished fifth in 59.05 seconds. She teamed with Alex Dhaenens, Shelby Cloyd and Betsy Otten for a runner-up time of 1 minute, 46.08 seconds in the 200 freestyle relay, and joined Savannah VanWormer, Alexi Scott and Otten for fourth in the 200 medley relay in 1:59.82.

Tallied her first collegiate points Tuesday to help the Ohio Dominican University women’s basketball team to a 49-47 victory over Salem International.
The sophomore hit her only field-goal attempt of the game while grabbing a pair of rebounds. She also had one rebound for the Panthers (2-0) in Friday’s 60-46 victory over Notre Dame (Ohio).[[In-content Ad]]
