Vormohr wins disc at Centre

Collegiate Check-up

A Jay County High School graduate scored in three events for the Hanover College men's track team at the Centre Invitational.

Joseph Vormohr, class of 2006, put up points in all three field events, including a win in the discus. He led the Panthers to a fourth-place finish at the 13-team event.

The senior dominated the shot put with a winning throw of 147 feet, 5 inches. He was more than nine feet ahead of runner-up Chas Grider of Eastern Kentucky.

Vormohr also finished fifth in the shot put at 43 feet, 5 ΒΌ inches, and was seventh in the hammer throw at 120 feet, 2 inches.

He added third-place efforts in both the discus and hammer throw as Hanover finished second out of 10 teams at the Hanover Invitational. He had tosses of 146 feet, 3 inches and 136 feet, 4 inches respectively.

He was also fourth in the shot put at 44 feet, 11 inches.

Josh Atkinson

Jay County - 2006

Went the distance in leading the Manchester College baseball team to a 4-3 victory March 27 over Ohio Wesleyan.

Atkinson started and picked up his second win of the season, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out two and did not walk a batter.

He improved to 3-1 on the year Friday as Manchester topped Anderson 18-13. He picked up the win despite allowing nine runs on 10 hits in four innings.

Brandon Reynard

Jay County - 2009

Turned in a top-10 finish for the Indiana Tech men's track team Saturday at the Mike Poehlein Invitational hosted by Purdue.

Reynard had his best effort in the 400-meter hurdles, where he turned in a time of 55.79 seconds. He finished in sixth in the field of 25 runners.

The freshman was also 17th in the 100 dash with a time of 11.31.

Jana Beitler

South Adams - 2009

Racked up three hits Saturday for the Goshen College softball team in an 8-7 loss to St. Francis (Ill.).

Beitler had singles in the first and third innings against St. Francis and then took advantage of her opportunity with runners on base in the sixth. She added her third hit of the game, knocking a two-run single to right field.

The freshman also had a double Friday in a loss to Iowa Wesleyan, and singled Tuesday in a 9-4 loss to Indiana Wesleyan.

Anne Lehman

South Adams - 2008

Also drove in a pair of runs for the Goshen softball team in the loss to St. Francis.

After reaching base on an error in the fourth inning, Lehman came to the plate with runners on second and third in the sixth. She brought home both runners with a double to center field to kick off a five-run inning and later scored on Beitler's single.

She also had a single Friday in the Maple Leafs' 9-1 loss to Iowa Wesleyan.

Amanda Johnson

Jay County - 2008

Turned in a 10th-place finish for the Indiana Wesleyan women's track team as it hosted the Polar Bear Invitational March 27.

Johnson was 10th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2-minutes, 28.13 seconds. The sophomore also teamed with Angi Wolgemuth, Kailee Whitaker and Ashley Perritt for fourth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:20.86.

She finished 15th in the high jump at 4 feet, 4 inches.

Dexter Shreve

Jay County - 2009

Competed in one event for the Kent State University men's track team Saturday at the 16-team Oliver Nikoloff Invitational hosted by Cincinnati.

Shreve finished 12th in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 2 inches.

Adam Gray

Jay County - 2009

Turned in the No. 3 score for the Valparaiso University men's golf team Sunday at the adidas Hoosier Invitational hosted by Indiana at the Indiana University Golf Course.

Gray turned in a 77 in the second round on the way to a 54-hole score of 237. He added matching scores of 246 for the Crusaders at both the Big Blue Intercollegiate and the Ball State Cardinal Collegiate.[[In-content Ad]]
