Vormohr wins discus at invite

For the second time in three weeks, Joseph Vormohr walked away with a victory.
Vormohr, a 2006 Jay County High School graduate, won the discus for Hanover College at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet April 16. He was also first in the discus at the April 3 Centre Invitational.
The senior dominated the field of 35 throwers at Rose-Hulman, winning the discus with a toss of 144 feet, 5 inches. He was first in the event by nearly nine feet over Marian's Derelle Hankins.
Vormohr also scored points for the Panthers in the shot put, placing sixth at 43 feet, 5 ¾ inches. He was 22nd in the hammer throw at 106 feet even.
Thomas McCowan
Jay County - 2008
Picked up a pair of hits for the Sinclair Community College baseball team April 10 in an 8-5 loss to Owens.
McCowan finished 2-for-3 with an RBI in the game for Sinclair, which bounced back to win the next three games to take the series from Owens. The Pride is 36-8 overall and 10-2 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.
The sophomore is hitting .333 this season with four doubles and 16 RBIs. He has 21 runs and six stolen bases with a .432 on-base percentage.
Josh Atkinson
Jay County - 2006
Improved to 4-1 for the Manchester College baseball team April 17 as he shut out Mount St. Joseph.
Atkinson dominated the Mount St. Joseph lineup, allowing just two hits and two walks over the course of seven innings. He struck out four batters.
The senior also picked up a save Monday, allowing one run in two innings of work in a 7-5 win over Defiance. He struck out two and gave up two hits.
He has a 3.83 ERA on the season and leads the Manchester staff in wins.
Amanda Johnson
Jay County - 2008
Turned in a pair of top-three efforts for the Indiana Wesleyan University women's track team April 16 at the Anderson University Raven Outdoor Invitational.
Johnson narrowly missed a victory in the 400-meter dash, finishing second in 1 minute, 0.82 seconds. She was just seven hundredths of a second behind teammate Cassidy Wagner.
The sophomore also finished third in the high jump at 4 feet, 7 ¾ inches.
Jana Beitler
South Adams - 2009
Was responsible for two of the Goshen College softball team's runs in a 13-4 loss to Marian in the second game of an April 17 double-header.
After drawing a walk in the first inning, Beitler singled to right field in the third. She advanced to second on a single from Sierra Van De Keere and scored when Kelsey Morris connected for a double.
The freshman added an RBI ground-out in the seventh inning.
Beitler also singled and scored a run April 17 as the Maple Leafs lost 12-8 in the first game of the double-header.
Anne Lehman
South Adams - 2008
Also helped the Goshen College softball team's offense in the first game of the double-header against Marian.
Lehman singled and scored a run in the loss.
Dexter Shreve
Jay County - 2009
Finished in the top three in three events of the decathlon for the Kent State University men's track team at the All Ohio Track and Field Championships hosted by Ohio April 17.
Shreve won the decathlon's 100-meter dash in 11.01 seconds, nearly two tenths of a second ahead of Miami's Michael McCarty. He was third in the shot put at 37 feet, 11 inches and the high jump at 6 feet, 2 ½ inches.
He also turned in a leap of 20 feet, 4 ½ inches in the long jump for sixth place.
Brandon Reynard
Jay County - 2009
Competed in a pair of events for the Indiana Tech men's track team April 17 at the Eastern Michigan University Twilight Invitational.
Reynard finished 11th in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 56.35. He also completed the 200 dash in 23.06 to place 14th.[[In-content Ad]]
