Vote for Davis urged (10/20/04)

Editor's Mailbag

By To the editor:-

It always restores my faith in government to hear Sen. Lugar. I am sorry more people weren’t available Saturday morning to attend the rally for Bill Davis in the Jay County Courthouse where Sen. Lugar spoke. The Senator really is an inspiration.

He spoke about numerous things that have happened in our state the past 16 years that really need to be fixed. Probably the most serious problem is our $800 million deficit. The legislature has a constitutional responsibility to balance the budget. In order to show a paper balance, among other ways, they (delay) sending money to school corporations. These shenanigans probably meet the letter of the law, but certainly not the spirit of the law.

We need a legislator like Bill Davis who has a solid business background that requires balancing budgets to survive. Bill’s background also includes help with the organization of Jay County Development Corporation. This corporation is responsible for bringing about 1,500 jobs to Jay County.

This scenario tells you two things about Bill Davis. First, he has run a successful business and second, being involved with the creation of Jay County Development Corporation shows he is forward-looking.

It really is time for new blood in Indiana’s Statehouse. Bill Davis is running against Ron Liggett for Indiana House District 33 Representative, which includes all of Jay County, plus a portion of Randolph and Delaware counties. Bill is the man best suited to help get our state back on its feet and to carry us into the future with new ideas.

Sincerely,

Lola Joy
