Voters head to the polls Tuesday (11/04/06)
Area voters will have a wide array of choices - from U.S. Senator to township advisory boards - when they go to the polls Tuesday.
Many voters in Jay County and across Indiana are taking advantage of relaxed absentee voter regulations to vote early, but a significant number will still be going to the polls on Tuesday.
Polls in Jay County will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with final results expected sometime before 8 p.m.
Among the most talked-about races in Jay County is a rematch for District 33 State Representative between Republican incumbent Bill Davis and Democratic challenger Ron Liggett, who is trying to win back the seat won by Davis in 2004.
Another rural Redkey resident, Democrat Clayton Phillips, is his party's nominee for the District 27 seat in the Indiana Senate, as he is challenging 20-year incumbent Republican Allen Paul.
Also featured on the county-wide ticket in Jay County are contested races for sheriff, recorder and two county council positions.
A three-way race for sheriff features police veterans Ray Newton (Republican) and Mark Barnett (Democrat), along with Independent candidate Brian Louth.
