Walk Against Cancer set (05/27/08)

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

Soon Jay County newspaper subscribers will find the 2008 Walk Against Cancer flier included in their newspaper. It is our hope that the community will join us on June 21 at Jay County High School to raise money for the Jay County Cancer Society. The cancer society provides financial assistance to cancer patients in Jay County for medical expenses, travel, prescriptions, testing, etc.

Activities start with a car show at 6 p.m., kids area from 7 to 9 p.m., concession booth (6-9 p.m.), theme laps (8:15-9:15 p.m.) survivor dinner (6:30 p.m. with reservations required by June 14) and the luminary ceremony at 9:30 p.m.

The event is going to be at the JCHS track rain or shine. We will not be moving the event indoors in case of inclement weather, so bring a jacket or umbrella.

Fliers for the event are available at the Jay County Public Library, Jay County Hospital, Strohl Appliance and other local businesses. The flier is also available online at jaycountychamber.com. The flier has all the times of the events and a pledge sheet on the back. Any walker who collects more than $100 will receive a free walk t-shirt while supplies last.

How can you help?

There are many ways: Collect money from your friends, co-workers, family, neighbors, etc., as pledges or for luminaries and keep track on the pledge sheet, then bring the pledge sheet and money to the walk event. Ask your employer to make a donation on your behalf. Help spread the word by sharing this information with as many people as possible. Display the flier in your place of business. Have a charity fundraiser at your place of employment, church or philanthropic group and donate the funds raised to the walk. The ways to help are endless and the difference every dollar makes is priceless.

We would like to thank all the sponsors who make this event possible: Hartzell Fan, Stoneridge Electronics, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Jay County Knights of Columbus, Mayor Bruce Hosier's 2008 Charity Golf Outing, MainSource Bank, Jay County Hospital, Alpha Gamma Nu and the Immaculate Conception Altar Rosary Society.

If you would like to volunteer at the walk or need additional information, please contact us at (260) 726-8110 and leave a message.

Donations are accepted the night of the walk or anytime at P.O. Box 614, Portland, IN, 47371.

We look forward to seeing you on the evening of June 21.

Thank you,

Carolyn Carducci, chairman, Jay County Walk Against Cancer[[In-content Ad]]
