Wapakoneta ends Indians' streak (05/14/05)

FRHS softball

The streak finally ended for the Fort Recovery softball team Friday.

After winning the sectional championship Wednesday and the Midwest Athletic Conference title Thursday the Indians fell 5-2 to the Wapakoneta Redskins Friday.

The loss brought an end to the Tribe’s 10-game winning streak.

Still, there was some good news to be had as coach Marie Osterholt was voted MAC Coach of the Year after her team clinched the outright league title with Thursday’s win over the Versailles Tigers. Osterholt joined Krystal Rammel, who shared Co-Player of the Year honors with Parkway’s Erica Yoder.

Alyssa Tobe suffered the defeat Friday as Wapakoneta scored three runs in the third inning and once each in the fourth and fifth for a 5-0 lead. Fort Recovery (13-8) scored its only two runs in the sixth.

Four of the runs against Tobe were earned as she gave up 11 hits and two walks. She struck out four batters.

Renee Evers paced the offense with a single, a run and a stolen base. Ciera Rammel had a double, and Kristen Schwieterman had the other Tribe run.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team hosted Wapakoneta and fell 22-16 as the Redskins scored 11 times in the final frame.

The Indians (6-14) scored at least once in every inning and held a 15-11 lead in the slugfest before Wapakoneta erupted in the seventh. Beth May suffered the defeat as she worked four innings.

Jodi Tobe finished 4-for-5 with a double and a home run. She scored three times, drove in two runs and stole a base.

Abby Niekamp added three hits and three runs, and Lori Osterholt had three hits and three RBIs.[[In-content Ad]]
