Watson updates on road work
Jay County Commissioners
County engineer Dan Watson updated the Jay County Commissioners this morning on a few county projects — including a bridge project east of Bloomfield Elementary School.
Watson informed the commissioners that bids for Bridge 54 on county road 500 North just east of U.S. 27 were opened last week and that the project came in about $100,000 under the engineer’s estimate.
Watson said the project — which is being backed by federal dollars — should begin soon. The county is not involved in advertising for bids or awarding of contracts.
In other road news, Watson said that stimulus paving projects within the county are nearly completed. The county was awarded money for four paving projects last year to resurface portions of county roads 300 North, 1150 West, 200 South and 400 South. Final work on those projects should wrap up in the coming weeks.
In other business this morning, the commissioners:
•Heard updates from Jay County Soil and Water Conservation District educator Bettie Jacobs about programs going on in her department.
Jacobs said she is looking for volunteers to help with a water sampling project in the Wabash River on Saturday. Those interested may contact the district at (260) 726-4373 ext. 3.
Jacobs also presented the commissioners with information about a Cover Crop Field Day taking place Sept. 7 at Orr Farms, located a quarter mile south of 400 South on county road 800 West. For more information about the field day, contact the district.
•Signed an emergency claim for $25 to pay for COBRA cost. The bill was accidentally omitted from the monthly claims.[[In-content Ad]]
