We can do this
Editorial
We can do this.
Word that the Helping Hand Food Bank was running low came as no surprise, but the calls for help usually come later in the year rather than in mid-summer.
Just the same, this community is always ready to step up and help neighbors in need no matter what time of year it happens to be.
One complication this year is that the ongoing construction project on Boundary Pike in Portland has made access to the food bank in the Community and Family Services buildings on South Wayne Street difficult.
To make things easier, beginning Monday the offices of The Commercial Review, 309 W. Main St., Portland, will serve as an extra drop-off point for non-perishable food items and household goods. Our offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. We'll take the items by van to the food bank on a regular basis.
Canned vegetables, canned fruit, cereal and foods like macaroni and cheese are always needed.
Together, as a community, we can do this. Let's re-stock those shelves. - J.R.
