We can make a difference

Editorial

Take another look around. It's there somewhere.

Maybe it's on the dresser where you put your change at the end of the day.

Maybe it's on your desk. Or by the computer.

Maybe it's on the kitchen table.

But chances are there's a United Way of Jay County pledge card around the house someplace.

It's time to find it, fill it in, and return it to work so your 2010 payroll deductions can help support the wide variety of missions represented by the county's United Way member agencies.

Years ago, when looking into the nature of giving, a wise fellow pointed out to us that the United Way campaign isn't about asking for money. It's about providing an opportunity for people to give back to the community that raised and shaped them. It's a way of "paying it forward" to the next generation and the one after that.

That wise man wasn't some college professor. He didn't have a corner office. In fact, he never had an office at all.

He worked in a small Jay County factory and he farmed.

His annual pledge wasn't a big one. But it meant the world to him, and his participation in the campaign was as real to him as voting for president.

So take another look around.

That pledge card is around there somewhere. If you've misplaced it or somehow never received one, that's easy enough to fix.

Call 260-726-7010 and tell them you don't want to miss out on an opportunity like this. - J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
