We need to bridge the divide (7/12/05)

Letters to the Editor

By To the editor:-

Had our grandfathers and great-grandfathers had known this would be the outcome, would they have been so willing to storm the beaches of Normandy, Omaha, Utah, Juno and Gold? Had they known our country would become sell-outs to not only foreign, but communist countries, do you think the 25,000 who lost their lives taking the island of Iwo Jima would have been so determined.

It is time for the people of America to take back their country. As American corporations sell out to foreign countries, we sell off percentages of the freedom those who came before us fought so hard to ensure.

We are getting closer to losing our first war. Not the one in Iraq, or the one in Afghanistan. This war will be fought without machine guns, tanks and missiles.

Imagine if all oil companies become foreign-owned. How hard would it be to defeat America economically? What if Frigidaire and GE sell to a communist group from China as Maytag did?

As we continue to line the pockets of other countries, we become a bigger target. Right now, if foreign investors pulled their money from the United States, we would be bankrupt. Hillary Clinton is one of the many powerful people in government who are in favor of one form of money. You could spend your “euro” anywhere you wanted. Russia, China, Japan, Mexico, Canada and your local convenience store down the street. Your dollar bills would be useless. You could use George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Jackson to start your fires with.

Our country was founded to be free of government control. Our families came here to start a new life of freedom. “In God We Trust,” has become, “trust but don’t tell.” Now the only people offending anyone was Christians.

We are living in a time where wrong becomes acceptable, and morality is weak. In our country today, a strong American is not as important as individual wealth. The days of standing together for the good of our country is long gone.

We have two Americas, the left and the right. Our government has created a divide, continuing to blame the other, when both are at fault of the mess we live in. Each says we need to be united, but neither will take the first step, willing to unite only if one side moves to the other. Meeting in the middle is unacceptable.

Wake up, America, before it is too late. In case we are only now starting to notice, free trade is not so free. Still today as young men and women are dying to protect their fellow Americans, we put money into the hands of those who hate us. I am not a Republican, I am not a Democrat. I am an American concerned for his country.

Great time

To the editor:

Yesterday (Saturday, July 9) I had a new and very enjoyable experience at XPLEX. UROC was a new sport for me to watch and I was there for eight hours enjoying every minute. I had the chance to meet some really nice people from all over the United States.

I am looking forward to watching again Aug. 20-21 and am going to tell everyone I know to come and enjoy this experience right here in Portland.

Thank you to Glynn Barber and the many people involved for making this happen.

Doing well

To the editor:

An update on Elfreide Gilmore: For all of Elfreide’s friends, it’s very good news. When things were looking so bad, God must have stepped in and answered some prayers.

I’ve talked to her and she’s starting to walk with help. If there is anyone out there who would like to talk to her, please call me and I’ll be glad to give you her phone number. She would be so glad to hear from all of you. Thank you.
