Collegiate Check-up

Kyle Weaver and his Wabash College swim team have been honored in the polls and showed why in a relay meet at the conclusion of its Florida training trip.

The Little Giants are ranked fourth in the NCAA's Division III, tied with Rowan University with 156 points in the web site's poll. They sit just 1.3 points behind Kenyon while Denison (175.3) is first and Emory (160.3) stands second.

The team showed off its ability Jan. 3 as it closed out its trip to Florida with a relay meet against Davidson and SUNY New Paltz. Wabash fell just short of upsetting Division I Davidson, falling just 154-146. New Paltz was a distant third with 44 points.

Weaver was part of the team's opening victory at the relay event, teaming with Matt Routh, Adam Petro and Robert Fozkos for first place in the butterfly relay at 1-minute, 37.52 seconds.

Tyler Niekamp

Fort Recovery - 2003

Started for the NCAA Division II No. 7 Findlay University men's basketball team Dec. 6 in its 91-63 thumping of Gannon.

Niekamp was efficient with his shots, taking all of his three attempts from behind the arc and making two of those 3-pointers to finish with six points. He also grabbed three rebounds and had one block and one steal.

He also had five points and four rebounds Thursday as the Lakers improved to 13-1 overall and 7-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with an 82-55 triumph over Hillsdale.

Finished with three rebounds, two points and a block Dec. 6 in the IU Southeast men's basketball team's loss to Spalding. The 75-62 defeat dropped the Grenadiers to 13-6 on the season.[[In-content Ad]]
