Wellman named all-conference

Billy Wellman has excelled both on the baseball field and in the classroom.
The 2009 Jay County High School graduate and Ball State University third baseman earned a pair of honors recently, being named to the All-Mid-American Conference first team. The College Sports Information Directors of America also named him to the Capital One Academic All-District V Team.
Wellman ranks second for the Cardinals (29-23) with a .299 batting average and 35 RBIs. He also has 12 doubles, four home runs and 24 runs. He carries a 3.91 grade point average
The redshirt junior went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, three RBIs and a run BSU’s final regular-season win Friday over Northern Illinois. He also had a single, two walks and a run against Northern Illinois on May 16.
Ball State won its opening-round game of the Mid-American Conference Tournament 13-7 Wednesday over Miami. The Cardinals play Kent State in the quarterfinal round at 4 p.m. today.
Brandon Reynard
Jay County – 2009
Will compete for Indiana Tech in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Outdoor Men’s Track and Field National Championships beginning today at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.
Reynard will compete in three events for the Warriors, including the 400-meter hurdles. He is seeded third in the event at 52.78 seconds trailing only Monte Larsen of Morningside and Nathan Magstadt of Dickinson State.
He will also run for Indiana Tech in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays, in which the Warriors are seeded second and seventh respectively.
Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Was part of Indiana University East’s largest group of spring athletes to earn academic honors in school history.
Houck was one of 24 spring athletes to be named to the IU East Chancellor’s List or Dean’s List. Students must have at least a 3.5 grade point average in order to be eligible for the honor.[[In-content Ad]]
