Wellman on fire at the plate

The Cardinals surged above .500 with a seven-game winning streak. Billy Wellman was the catalyst.
Wellman was raised his batting average nearly 40 points as he has caught fire at the plate in the last two weeks, including a three-hit effort Saturday in the Ball State University baseball team’s 10-6 win over Toledo.
The redshirt junior went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the victory. He has gone 13-for-24 (.542) in the last seven games to lift his season average to .318.
Wellman had a hit and a run in Friday’s series opener against Toledo, and added two hits on Sunday. He went 2-for-4 with a run for the Cardinals (26-22) Tuesday against Indiana State.

Dexter Shreve
Jay County – 2009
Turned in a sixth-place finish for the runner-up Kent State University men’s track team Saturday at the Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Akron.
Shreve scored 6,695 points to earn his sixth-place finish in the decathlon, in which he won the 100-meter dash in 11.02 seconds. He was also second in the 400 dash in 48.8 and the 1,500 run with a time of 4 minutes, 41.24 seconds.

Jordan McMillan
Jay County – 2011
Also competed at the MAC Championships at Akron for the Ball State University women’s track team, which finished last in the 12-team field.
McMillan teamed with Rebecca Kropf, Christina Crawford and Janae Taylor for 10th place in the 4x100-meter relay. They posted a time of 48.46 seconds.

Katie Simmons
Jay County – 2012
Ran for the host IPFW women’s track team, which placed eighth out of nine teams Saturday in the Summit League Championships.
Simmons’s top effort came in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, which she won with a time of 12 minutes, 17.59 seconds. She was 33rd in the 5,00 run in 19:22.46.[[In-content Ad]]
