Wenning tosses two-hitter (05/12/08)
FRHS softball
NEW BREMEN, Ohio - Saturday's sectional semifinal had as many delays before the game as the Flyers had hits during the game.
Kinsey Wenning shut down Marion Local, tossing a two-hit shutout to lead the Fort Recovery High School softball team to a 2-0 victory. The Indians advance to Tuesday's sectional championship game to play St. Henry - which they lost to 6-0 during the regular season - at New Bremen at 5 p.m.
The game, originally scheduled for 11 a.m., was pushed back Friday night to 2 p.m. because of rain throughout the evening.
Then Saturday it was delayed another hour for the field to be prepared, but the Indians (6-15) were ready once the dirt was dry.
Wenning turned in her best pitching performance of the year, halting a three-game losing streak with a two-hit, three-walk effort. She struck out three batters in the victory over the Flyers, who had defeated FRHS 5-0 just two weeks earlier.
Heather Schmackers had two hits and scored both Indian runs - one in the third inning and another in the fifth.
Wenning delivered an RBI single, Carla Guggenbiller and Kelly Thien each had two hits and Kelly Sudhoff delivered a double.[[In-content Ad]]
