Westgerdes wins two again (04/01/05)

ANNA, Ohio — Senior Kristi Westgerdes picked up two more wins as the Fort Recovery girls track team again finished second at a three-team meet Thursday.
The Indians also got two wins from Stefanie Schuessler and won six of the nine running events they competed in only to fall short to the host Anna Rockets 62.5-52.5. The Botkins Trojans were third with 46 points.
Fort Recovery’s boys team went winless on the night, but still finished second with 37 points. Anna dominated the meet with 108 points, and Botkins finished with 29.
Westgerdes, who was the Tribe’s lone double winner Tuesday against Crestview and Parkway, took first place in the sprints again. She won the 100-meter dash by nearly a full second in 13.7 seconds, and edged the Trojans’ Emily Cooper in the 200 dash by one tenth in 29 seconds flat.
Schuessler picked up her first career victory, dominating the 1,600 run by almost 20 seconds in 6-minutes, 45.4 seconds. She added another win in the 800 run in 2:57.8.
Junior Lindsay Sudhoff also scored the first victory of her career by taking the 3,200 run in 14:47.10. Sophomore Vicki Roessner notched the other Tribe victory in the 300 hurdles in 51.5.
The boys team got second-place efforts from Eric Lamm in the 800 run, Steve Gaerke in the 3,200 run, Lucas Staugler in the shot put, John Westgerdes in the discus and Matt Vagedes in the pole vault.
FR JH wins pair
Fort Recovery’s junior high girls were dominant Thursday, scoring nearly four times as many points as the opposition as they hosted the New Knoxville Rangers and the Parkway Panthers. The Indians won with 84 points while New Knoxville scored 26 and Parkway had 23.
The boys team also scored a victory with 48 points. The Panthers were second with 45, and New Knoxville had 41.
The Tribe girls team was carried by its distance runners and throwers en route to the big win, with Tina Roessner and Anne Koesters each picking up two victories.
Roessner led a perfect Fort Recovery effort in the distance races as the Indians took all 11 points in both the 800-meter run and the 1,600 run. She was first in the 800 in 2-minutes, 58.19 seconds, with Amber Heitkamp second, Alyssa Brackman third and Andrea Faller fourth. Roessner’s win in the 1,600 came by 30 seconds in 6:28.38 as Brackman, Faller and Stacey O’Dell took the next three spots.
After leading sweeps in the throwing events Tuesday night, Koesters did the same in the discus against the Panthers and the Rangers. She won with a toss of 76 feet, one inch, with Lorraine Shier second, Jessica Link third and Carly Staugler fourth. Koesters and Shier went one-two again in the shot put, with the winning toss landing at 29 feet.
Emily May and Rachel Tobe accounted for the other two Indian wins. May took the 400 dash in 1:11.50, and Tobe was first in the high jump at four feet, six inches.
Roessner, May, Staugler and Melissa Tobe teamed to win the 4x400 relay in 5:07.67, and Brackman, Kelsey Brockman, Melissa Tobe and Josie Guggenbiller took the 4x200 relay in 2:17.89.
Jordan Hess powered the boys team with a pair of wins, including one in the 110 hurdles in 19.75. He also took the pole vault at seven feet.
Jacob Pohl was first in the 800-meter run in 2:54.76, and Mitch Link won the shot put at 36 feet. Shane Stein was first in the high jump at four feet, two inches.[[In-content Ad]]
