What happened to free speech in Jay County?
On Wednesday, June 24, I attended the “open” session of the Jay County Hospital Board of Trustees. I had prepared a statement regarding my concerns about events which had occurred at Jay County Hospital over several years which I felt had been to the detriment of the patients there and also Jay County as a whole.
I am a radiologist and practiced at Jay County Hospital for over five years.
I was denied the right to speak at a public meeting for a county-owned institution by Mr. John G. Young, the chairman of the board of trustees! I think this is illegal. When I called a “point of order,” he again refused to allow me to speak!
Previously I had given John G. Young and the hospital chief executive officer Joe Johnston a letter with great detail of many of these matters to be distributed to the other board members and to the county commissioners, which was not forwarded as requested. I would now be willing to make this letter public as these individuals failed their responsibility to the citizens of Jay County.
I feel both these individuals need to resign or the county commissioners need to intervene and correct this problem.
