What was jury thinking?

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

What were they thinking?

I have been reading in The CR about one-month-old Aliahna Sacher, how her mother was arrested for several injuries allegedly committed by her to her baby.

Ruby Sacher was charged with battery resulting in serious bodily injury to a person less than 14 months old, a class B felony.

Now Ruby goes to trial by jury.

And lo and behold, this jury finds her guilty of not a class B felony, but a class B misdemeanor. What were they thinking?

I follow the court news all the time. And almost every day a person is arrested at Wal-Mart for shoplifting, a class D felony for theft. They receive more punishment than Ruby Sacher received.

What were they thinking?

If this jury was asked to give the child back to her mom, they would do it.

It hurts me to see a child hurt by adults. Whether it be physical abuse, sexual abuse, or just plain old verbal abuse.

What were they thinking?
