Whitacre memorial event is June 18
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
The second annual Lance Cpl. Andrew F. Whitacre Memorial Ride will be held on Saturday, June 18. This is open to all makes and models of motorcycles. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. at the Portland Moose Lodge 417. The ride of approximately 100 miles will leave at noon. We will begin serving food at 4:30 p.m., with door prizes and an auction.
Since the beginning of the Lance Cpl. Andrew Whitacre Memorial Fund in 2009, several care packages to troops overseas have been sent. Every name and address we receive is sent packages. Boxes of books that have been donated have been shipped to Afghanistan. We’ve donated to the Wounded Warrior Project and the American Red Cross. We were able to assist some local families in going to their sons’ homecoming when they arrived back in the U.S., along with many other worthy projects to support our troops.
All the money that is raised for the memorial fund is used for our troops to support and honor them — the young and old veterans, the wounded, and the fallen. We will continue to do that as long as we can to make sure that they are not forgotten.
We would appreciate any support that you can give. If you would like to make a monetary donation, please make it out to the Lance Cpl. Andrew F. Whitacre Memorial Fund. If you would prefer to donate merchandise for the auction or door prizes, please contact me and I can arrange to have it picked up.
I would like to thank you in advance for support and if you would like any further information about the fund or event, please feel free to contact me.
I would also like to take this opportunity to send packages to any of your employees or their family members currently serving overseas.
Thank you,
Norma Whitacre
