Witness to a kind act (02/07/07)

To the editor:

I just want to tell the community of Portland and Jay County that I witnessed the nicest act of kindness from Portland Mayor Bruce Hosier.

It was Friday, Feb. 2. I was looking out the front window of Quality Glass Inc. and I saw this older gentleman walking with a grocery sack and it was so cold out that day. I thought to myself, oh my, he should not be walking in this type of weather.

Just then, Mayor Hosier pulled over and offered this gentleman a ride. What a special person it takes to take the time to help another human being in a time of need. If we had more people in the world like this, wouldn't it be a warmer winter?

I tell you, I felt a lot warmer that day which was so bitterly cold. Thank you, mayor, for being the nice man you are.
