Wolford's family: Thanks for help
Letters to the Editor
By To the editor:-
I am writing this letter to thank the many people of Jay County. My name is Heather Binegar. I am the mother of Zach Wolford, who died in an auto accident this past April along with my nephew.
These past few months have been hard leading up to the fair. This was to be Zach’s 10th year in 4-H and he could not wait to see it come. After receiving all his animals for the fair, almost a week later Zach was killed. We were determined that Zach was going to finish his 10th year. So I made all the right phone calls to make this come true.
All Zach’s goats went to the fair and his friends helped by showing them in his memory. A scholarship fund was also set up in his memory through The Portland Foundation, selling his goat at the livestock auction and taking any donations to make this name, so now this dream has come to reality.
Now I would like to give thanks to all that have helped in any way. Zach’s friends that showed at the fair; a special thanks goes to Mark and Sue Bellante; SueAnn McLaughlin, Harold Towell; and the 4-H Council for their help and support. And thanks also to the many people that have donated money in Zach’s memory; too many to mention.
At this time we have raised more than $3,000, which will be used for a 4-H goat member in 4-H for 10 years going onto higher education, which Zach would want.
Zach had attended Ivy Tech College for one year and was a goat lover from the time he was a little boy, so this just fits. At this time they are still taking donations of any kind at the Portland office of Farm Bureau or the Jay County office of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service.
Again, many thanks to all for everything.
