South Adams School Board

BERNE - Site work has been progressing on the new elementary and middle school, but it will be several weeks before walls and structural steel start to go up.
The new facility, being constructed on a site between South Adams High School and U.S. 27, is the first design/build school construction project in Indiana.
School officials said that site work closest to U.S. 27 is related to a retention pond for surface water and noted that the building itself will not be anywhere near the highway.
"Steel has been ordered," superintendent Cathy Egolf told the South Adams School Board Tuesday. It's expected that structural steel will start being erected in late July.
Rain has not been a problem so far, school officials said.
Board members learned Tuesday that 72 students have signed up for the summer science academy.
"I'm very excited," said teacher Michael Baer, who is heading up the program. He had hoped to have 50 students sign up. "It's a great opportunity for our kids."
Students will be working on a variety of projects, including work with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources at the Loblolly Wetland Preserve, southwest of Geneva.
In other business, the board:
•Approved carving an additional classroom out of the commons space at the high school at an estimated cost of less than $15,000.
•Declared all of the school system's NEC computers that are more than 10 years old to be surplus equipment so they can be disposed of.
•Approved participation by the South Adams FFA in the state convention later this month in Indianapolis.
•Accepted the resignations of Janelle Gresla as junior high girls and boys swim coach, Dean Stahly as a teacher and head baseball coach, Kristen Sprunger as girls' golf coach, and Jesse O'Dell as assistant football coach.
•Hired the following staff members for summer school: Steve Tatman, Cindy Sprunger, Lana Sharp, Danieelle Eccles, Ashley Buckingham, Jennifer Lehman, Michael Baer, Julie Baumer, Josh Roby, Jeni Lingo, Eric Myers, Kim Baer, Shyler Berman, Karen Bollenbacher, Amber Neuenschwander, Braden Baer, Jody Lengerich, Becky Caffee, Kristie Brown, Sandy Sprunger, Kathy Bauman, Judy Lipina, and Lois Bailey.
•Hired Ashley Buckingham as a high school physical education and health teacher, Jeff Lehman as a high school physical education and health teacher, Seth Sprunger as a high school English and journalism teacher, Rebecca Dubach as an elementary teacher, and Scott Steiner as an elementary teacher.[[In-content Ad]]
