Wrap-up to flood of GSA letters

Letters to the Editor

(Editor's note: Dozens of letters regarding the issue of the formation of a Gay/Straight Alliance at Jay County High School have been published by The Commercial Review since mid-October. Although we will consider letters submitted on an individual basis, we believe the issues and opinions on the subject have been sufficiently aired.)

To the editor:

Many people have written letters lately expressing their views. Many of them have expressed certain religious beliefs as well as belief in the bible. They, in my opinion, presume that because they hold these beliefs they are, by implication, correct.

I respectfully disagree and submit the following for contemplation and consideration. Faith does not equal fact.

For example: I have faith that my employer will pay me for the work that I do. It does not become fact until I have a paycheck in my hand.

Belief does not equal truth. The majority of the people in the world used to believe that the world was flat and the sun revolved around the earth.

Opinion does not give one the right to judge and/or decide what is right. That is reserved to the law(s). The constitution was not written to protect the majority, it was written to protect the minority.

It's clear

To the editor:

After reading the many interesting letters on the gay question, I felt it necessary to write.

One thing that became very clear is that everyone seems to tell Christians that the bible doesn't mean what it says. For example, it says in Leviticus 20:13 that a many laying with another man as he does with a woman is an abomination. That's the King James Version. Another version calls it detestable.

Lest you say, "that's the Old Testament, and doesn't apply today," in I Corinthians 6:9 it says that the "effeminate" will not inherit the Kingdom of God. In Revelation 21:8 it states that the "abominable" shall have their part in the Lake of Fire. Seems pretty clear, doesn't it?

It is my understanding that a Muslim prays five times a day. Would you tell them that the Koran doesn't mean what it says about that?

No, probably not.

We have a black cat. No matter how much she might wish to be white, or how many baths we give her, she is still black.

By the same token, if the bible says something is a sin, no matter how you try to change it, it is still a sin.
