Year-end claims OK'd (12/30/2008)
Redkey Town Council
By By ROBERT BANSER-
REDKEY - Claims totaling $221,000 were approved at a special year-end meeting Monday night by town council members here.
Included in that figure was more than $133,000 to Watson Excavating of Redkey for work done in connection with the town's share of the Ind. 1 improvement and water main relocation project, as well as approximately $8,000 to Commonwealth Engineering, Indianapolis.
In other business Monday night, town council members:
•Scheduled an executive session for 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, to discuss pending litigation matters with their attorney, John Brooke. That meeting will be followed by a regular council meeting at 7 p.m. for the election of town council officers for 2009 and the assignment of council member supervisory responsibilities. Both meetings will be held in town hall, 20 S. Ash St.
•Approved the interdepartmental transfer of funds, totaling $4,350 for fire department expenses and $2,900 to purchase some new playground equipment for the park department.
•Approved the town's salary ordinance for 2009 with an across-the-board pay increase of 2 percent for elected and appointed officials.
These figures had previously been authorized during budget discussions.
Town council members will each receive $1,224 for the year. Other annual salaries include $29,919 for the town marshal; $27,171 for each of the two deputy marshals; $25,341 for the clerk-treasurer; street and maintenance superintendent, $27,293; and water supervisor and wastewater department superintendent, $29,886.
•Discussed the need to revise the town's personnel policy to prevent supervisors from taking vacations at the same time. Town officials noted that there were several problems recently as a result of street and maintenance superintendent Bill Tressler and water and wastewater supervisor Violet Ehrlenbush both taking their vacation leave simultaneously.[[In-content Ad]]
