Year of the hill?
Editorial
Fifty years from now, this winter may well be remembered as the winter of the hill.
Those who are kids today will know what we are talking about.
For generations, there have been only a couple of places in Jay County to go sledding.
One was a pretty puny hill above the Little Salamonie River on the golf course in Portland. The other was the overpass at Redkey, a spot that made for great sledding but always made parents nervous because of the proximity of highway traffic.
This is the winter when all that changed.
The new sledding hill at Hudson Family Park has been the center of winter outdoor fun ever since it was completed. Built with earth moved to create a lake at the park, the hill is simply a stroke of genius.
Our guess is that for the generation of youngsters sliding down the slope the hill will become one of the fondest memories of their childhood.
And this will be the winter when all that fun began. - J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
