Yes to Supercenter

By To the editor:-
We have had a Wal-Mart store for nine years now and the Portland merchants have survived quite well. The new store will have a grocery, and who in Portland/Jay County doesn’t think we need another grocery store? Think about it.
The new store may have a beauty shop, an automotive center, a garden center and appliances, etc. BUT we will continue to patronize Goodyear, Shear Perfection, Fishers, Cook’s, Ja-mar, Liggett’s, True Value (we always go there first where the service is unsurpassed) and a host of others. There is something to be said about loyalty, and we are determined to maintain ours.
This store will draw multitudes from the surrounding area and they will be buying other things in town while they are here.
As big a plus as this new store will be for our community, making it possible to “shop at home” rather than going to Muncie to buy groceries, surely we can all work together to make it a positive reality for our town and Jay County.
Sincerely,
Rogers and Janice Durham
Portland
