You can always find the right way
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
In response to Roderick Berry’s letter:
I got to say Mr. Berry some of the things you recently mentioned about society is true. However, I was fortunate to have had that caring family that never chose whom we (brother and I) were friends with. If we got into arguments or trouble it didn’t last long they (kids) were back over within a week playing football or baseball in our yard or the vacant yard down the street.
My parents are wonderful, I couldn’t ask for better. I grew up with everything I needed and still choose the wrong path — its all about choices — our choices. I did it just like you and many others have chose the wrong path.
Just because of whom your parents are, in which I know both of yours, isn’t societies fault of whom we become. Yes they could be more supportive and understanding instead of turning their backs like some do, I agree full-heartedly.
Although “we” as individuals should have been more motivated to have been a better person and/or role model in society and our communities we allowed society’s judgment of us to become true and that’s nobody’s fault but our own. Like self-sabotage, we created our environment again, our choices we could have chosen more wisely or wanted better choices or even removed ourselves from bad situations.
I know that coming to prison made me realize that I have to quit blaming others and take responsibility for my own actions and all that I’ve done. The first step in recovery, over any addiction, is “admitting” that our life in recover is unmanageable. I know also when I leave here I will be labeled a felon, or hey ain’t she the one who just got out of the pen; but oh well I don’t care today cause I know who I am and I now have goals and to a special thanks to Judge Hutchison for all he’s helped me realize and how for only being hours away from being a licensed cosmetologist now I know I am worth it.
I choose the wrong path now its time to follow the right one and not to make no promises that I won’t ever make a mistake again. I will show society that I can do it and not be one of those parents that turned my back on others. I believe that we need to keep our heads held high cause we are worth it and realize “nobody’s” perfect we all have made mistakes just some get caught some don’t. So keep shining Mr. Berry and take your own advice and quit labeling yourself the 7 day convict. You’re Roderick Berry and never forget that. Always remember no matter how far you’ve gone down the wrong path you can always turn around.
Sorry for the recent loss of your father, Ron.
God Bless,
Faith Fellers
