Zoning revisions reviewed (2/6/04)

City planning commission considers revisions

By By Jennifer [email protected]

The Portland Planning Commission received an edited version of the city’s zoning ordinance and elected officers Thursday.

As a commission subcommittee, members Vicki Tague and Lee Newman, former commission members Bob McCreery and Bill Davis and Jay/Portland Building and Planning administrator Bill Milligan worked last year to clarify some definitions and wording and to incorporate new Indiana codes into the ordinance, Milligan said at Thursday’s meeting.

Tague asked the commission members to review the changes in the ordinance, which were clearly marked in the revised version passed out Thursday, and be ready to vote on the changes at their Thursday, March 4 meeting.

If approved by the commission, a public hearing will be held. The ordinance then will be voted on by the Portland City Council, Milligan said.

He also said that the city map has also been updated and can be viewed on Jay County’s web site at www.jaycounty.net.

Also Thursday, Tague was again named president of the commission, and Portland Councilman Dolphus Stephens was re-elected as vice president. City Councilwoman Judy Aker was elected secretary.

Ken Walters was re-appointed as the commission’s representative on the Portland Board of Zoning Appeals, and Newman was chosen as the commission’s representative on the county’s planning commission.

In other business, commission members voted to change the time of their monthly meetings to 5 p.m. from 6 p.m. The commission meets on the first Thursday of every month in the auditorium of the Jay County Courthouse.[[In-content Ad]]
