CrossRoads says thanks for helping

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
Each year, America celebrates “Make a Difference Day” on the fourth Saturday of October.
Millions of volunteers helped others in their communities Oct. 25. Leaves were raked in neighborhood yards, homeless shelters were refurbished, parks and rivers were cleaned, playgrounds were built and the lives of millions of people are better because people helped in their communities.
Volunteers from CrossRoads Financial Federal Credit Union held buckets at the intersection of Votaw and Meridian Streets in Portland on a sunny Saturday morning collecting money for our local food pantries.
We would like to recognize all of you who helped us make a difference. In three hours motorists generously donated over $872 for local food bank needs. That’s slightly less than 2013 donations, but last year it was very cold, and sympathetic donors were very generous.
Whether you were someone who: Gave all the change you had, had your dollar waving in your hand, were an example of generosity to your children, drove around the block and donated money in several volunteer buckets, asked about Make a Difference Day or said thank you for helping, or perhaps had no money, but waved and smiled as you drove by, we thank you.
A special thank you goes to the Portland Police Department and Officer Michael Brewster for helping to keep us safe, to CrossRoads Youth Advisory Board members, the “electric” lady for safety cones and to our families — you all helped make it possible.
See you at the CrossRoads next year.
