Dunkirk OKs sales, donation

DUNKIRK — City council approved the sale of two properties Monday evening and agreed to accept another that was donated to the city.
Members Tom Johnson, Jesse Bivens, Lisa Street and Jack Robbins approved the sale of properties at 321 South St. for $500 to Charles R. and Julie E. Eltzroth and on Orange Avenue to Leonard A. and Stephanie K. Crouch for $300.
Robbins, the health and safety officer, also informed council that the owner of a property at 327 W. Commerce St. wished to donate their home to the city. There are $166 in taxes that were due on the property Monday, and clerk-treasurer Phonnie Kesler said the owner thinks the home will need to be demolished.
Council agreed to pursue accepting the donation and Robbins will check to see if there is a lien on the property.
In other business, council members:
•Made a water bill adjustment of $107.51 for a resident at 652 Elm St. and agreed to let a resident at 323 Short St. pay half of an overdue water bill of $114.42 in December and January.
•Heard Johnson thank Portland Mayor Randy Geesaman and Portland Park Board for the donation of a slide from Portland Pool to Dunkirk City Pool.
•Heard Mayor Dan Watson say he will contact MK Betts Engineering about problems at the Dunkirk Wastewater Treatment Plant at the advisement of Bivens.
•Agreed to donate $100 for the rubber turkey toss that will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 22 at Main and West Washington streets.
•Agreed to transfer $750 to purchase propane for the dog pound.
•Heard from Kesler that the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department boot drive to be held at the stop light in downtown Dunkirk has been moved to Nov. 14.
•Agreed to pay claims totaling $197,621.05.
•Heard Feel the Warmth of Christmas will be held Dec. 1 in downtown Dunkirk.
