School rules are questioned

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
I am a former Portland resident, a proud graduate of the class of ’66.
I want to thank Pastor Jellison for the letter he wrote a few weeks ago.
As I read his letter, I shouted “Praise the Lord.”
In addition to his statements, I feel it is sad when our traditions have changed so much that other religions and Darwin’s theory of evolution can be taught in our public schools, but Christianity is forbidden.
I still wouldn’t like it, but I could accept not teaching Christianity in our schools if we were not allowed to teach other religions or Darwin’s theory of evolution.
Let us not forget, it is just a theory.
I have also read that due to anti-American bullying in one of our states that the American flag cannot be flown on that school property.

This rule was handed down by a federal judge.
However, they are permitted to fly in the Mexican flag on that school grounds
I ask, “In what nation are we living?”
I will get off my soap box now, and thank my God I still have freedom of speech.
May God bless you.
Sincerely,
Linda Arnold
