Fundraising effort is nearing goal
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
It becomes clearer every day that the long dreamed of swimming pool to be known as the Portland Water Park will soon become a reality.
Thanks to many long months of planning by the park board and to a commitment by the City of Portland, we will soon be seeing final plans for the project. If you have been following this, you know that the citizens of the community have been asked to raise $1 million to help with funding what is estimated be a $3.3 million project.
More than 60 volunteers have been busy with a campaign to raise those funds.
The citizens of this amazing community have responded with a spirit of generosity that has us optimistic that, with the expectation of hearing from those who have not yet pledged, we can reach our $1 million goal.
The good part of the news is being able to announce that more than $900,000 has been pledged to date. The challenging part of the news is that, as we endeavor to raise the final $100,000, all who have not yet committed must join the ranks of those who have pledged if we are to make our goal.
While we will accept pledges well into 2015, it is our intention to bring the campaign to a close in January 2015.
If you have not yet pledged please do so as soon as possible. Pledge payments can be made throughout 2015.
Pledges can be made as follows:
Portland Water Park, c/o The Portland Foundation, 112 East Main Street, Portland, Indiana 47371.
If you have questions please direct them to either of us or to Doug Inman at the Portland Foundation at (260) 726-4260.
Thank you for your support.
