Breaking: Body found likely missing woman
A dead body believed to be that of missing Dunkirk resident Brianna DiBattiste was found Monday in Jay County.
Members of the Jay County Conservation Club found a badly decomposed body in a wooded area off of county road 650 South at the Jay County Conservation Club, Jay County Prosecutor Wes Schemenaur said in a press release this evening.
“Investigators have preliminarily identified the body as Ms. Dibattiste. A DNA test will be performed in order to confirm the identity,” he said.
The cause of death remains unknown.
An autopsy is scheduled to be preformed Wednesday, but test results may not be known for weeks, Schemenaur added.
An investigation is ongoing.
DiBattiste was last seen June 16 when she left her father’s Dunkirk home.
Since then officers from Jay County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Albany Police Department and Dunkirk Police Department have been investigating her disappearance.
The investigation has taken them all over Jay County, Muncie, Henry County and into Dayton, Ohio.
