Willis, Stars tame Tigers

BLUFFTON — Sydney Willis shot a 40 to earn match medalist honors as the South Adams High School girls golf team beat the Bluffton Tigers on Tuesday at Timber Ridge Golf Club.
It was the second straight round of 40 for Willis, who has been the match medalist in every dual meet this season for South Adams (6-1, 3-0 Allen County Athletic Conference).
Alleigh Wingler followed Willis with a 46. Jaci Gorrell and Kelli Lehman rounded out the Starfires’ team score with a 49 and 50 respectively.
Catlyn Hofstetter (60) and Sydney Sprunger (66) were South Adams’ No. 5 and No. 6 golfers.
Leo blanks Starfires
LEO — The Leo Lions handed the South Adams girls soccer team another shutout loss Tuesday, beating the Starfires 7-0.
Leo scored in the eighth minute, and added two more goals in the next two minutes en route to a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Tori Reiley led the Starfires with two shots on goal, and Madison Morgan added another.
Jadene Jauregui made seven saves for South Adams.
Jay JV tops Bruins
HARTFORD CITY — Jay County’s junior varsity football team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday, beating the host Blackford Bruins 6-0.
Alec Lewis scored the lone touchdown of the game on a 60-yard pass from Holton Hill, who completed both pass attempts for 80 yards.
The JV Patriots are now 1-1 on the season.
Jay County’s freshman team dropped its second game of the season Tuesday at New Castle in a 13-8 loss to the Trojans.
Seth Fugiett connected with Cole Stigleman on a 30-yard touchdown play, and Fugiett added a two-point conversion.
SAMS 7th wins
PONETO — The South Adams Middle School seventh grade football team capitalized on three turnovers to open its season with a 24-0 win Tuesday over Southern Wells.
The eighth grade Starfires lost, 16-0.
Collin Shaffer threw for one touchdown and added another on the ground to lead the SAMS seventh graders. Nic Stuber, who rushed for 105 yards on seven carries, scored on a 56-yard scamper and caught Shaffer’s TD pass.
Parker Collingsworth, Grady Sprunger and Skylar Sikes all recovered fumbles for South Adams.
Suman wins 3rd title
GENEVA — Dave Suman won his third club championship this weekend at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
Suman shot a 73 on Saturday and a 79 on Sunday to win the title, ahead of Bob Goulet.
Roger Geyer was the senior champion, and Terri Rhoades took the ladies’ title.
