Starfire boys take first
SAHS cross country
PONETO — The South Adams High School boys cross country team took first place Tuesday at the Bi-County Conditioner at Southern Wells.
The Starfires won the Hokum-Karem event with a total time of one hour, 38 minutes and 48.6 seconds. The Bellmont Braves placed second and the Bluffton Tigers were third.
South Adams’ girls team placed second with a time of 2:01:04.4, behind the Norwell Knights and ahead of the host Southern Wells Raiders.
Team scores are determined by taking the times of the top three teams, which consist of two runners completing a six-mile circuit.
The SAHS team of Sawyer Miller and Bailey McIntire finished in first place with a time of 31:21.3. Wyatt Miller and David Steffen teamed up to finish in fourth, ahead of Briar Goodwin and Cole Litwiller, who placed seventh. Kaden Gerber and Jake Hreha placed 20th.
For the Starfire girls, Olivia Von Gunten and Aleesha Goodwin finished with a time of 38:23.3, good enough for second place.
Katelin Hawbaker and Kara Seffernick were fourth, and the tandem of Hadi Hawbaker and Lauren Klaehn finished ninth.
Also competing for the Starfire girls were Lily Shane and Makenna Neuenschwander (13th), Makinzi Peace and Sydne Zuber (19th) and Saedie Hawbaker and Calyssa Lehman (20th).
