Visitation for Phillip G. Lutz, 74, Bryant, who died Friday at his home, will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Hugh Kelley officiating. American Legion Post 211 will be in charge of military rites at the service.
Born in Columbus to Phillip and Mary (Johnson) Lutz, he married Jeanne Glassford on May 4, 1991.
He was a Marine Corps veteran who served in the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion Post 211 in Portland. He worked as a tool and die maker for Cummins in Columbus and retired from Mutual of Omaha in Muncie after 20 years as general manager. He was a member of the World Class Chess Federation, a 1974 Champion of his division in Ocean City, Md., and played against World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Ryan Ninde (wife: Nikki), Pennville, Patrick Lutz (wife: Amy), George Lutz and Warren Richards; three daughters, Stephanie Mann (husband: Shane) and Abby Clamme (husband: David), both of Portland, and Cynthia Jones (husband: Gerry); two sisters, Phyllis Harding (husband: Dallas) and Cinda Clark (husband: Rich), both of Indianapolis; one brother, Vernon Shanks, Seattle; and nine grandchildren.
