SA boys first at Spencerville
SPENCERVILLE, Ohio — The South Adams High School boys cross country team had four runners place in the top 10 Saturday as the Starfires took first place in the black division at the Bearcat Invitational.
The Starfire girls placed second out of 16 teams.
In the red division, the Fort Recovery girls were sixth and the Tribe boys were 10th in the 18-team race.
SAHS sophomore Bailey McIntire crossed the finish line in second place. Sawyer Miller was one spot behind him in third. Wyatt Miller and David Steffen finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth place, and Briar Goodwin was 12th, helping the Starfires to a team score of 32 — its lowest total of the season.
Olivia Von Gunten led the Starfire girls by placing third. Kara Seffernick (11th), Aleesha Godowin (14th), Hadi Hawbaker (22nd), and Lilly Shane (27th) rounded out the top five for South Adams.
Fort Recovery sophomore Grace Gehle led the Indians with a 22nd-place finish. Caitlyn Huelskamp (30th), Angela Heitkamp (34th), Chelsea Timmerman (38th) and Alexis Hobbs (47th) also scored for the Indians.
Travis Sutter was the top runner for the Tribe boys, crossing the finish line in 18th place. Issac Siegrist finished nine places behind him in 27th, and Sam Huelskamp (81st), Harrison Kaup (103) and Rodney Hemmert (119) were the third, fourth and fifth runners respectively for FRHS.
Middle school
Eliza Harruff and Isabel Von Gunten led the SAMS girls team to a first place finish.
The Starfire boys placed seventh, while the Fort Recovery boys finished eighth. The FRMS girls did not qualify for a team score.
Harruff and Von Gunten placed third and fifth respectively for South Adams, with Megan Miller and Kallee Patch finishing back-to-back in eighth and ninth. Ashley LeFever was 18th.
Luke Gerber was third for the SAMS boys. Kamden Yoder (26th), Trey Lehman (38th), Aidan Von Gunten (84th) and Clancy McIntire (106th) closed out the top five runners for the Starfires.
For FRMS, Drew Muhlenkamp was 34th, Jared Timmerman placed 36th, Mitchel Metzger was 59th, Noah Homan crossed the finish line in 73rd and Cameron Romer was 75th.
Hannah Heitkamp placed 10th for the FRMS girls. Chloe Will was 21st, Elise Gehle placed 27th and Courtney Metzger finished 94th.
