Breaking: Building permits suspended
Jay/Portland Building and Planning Department Inter-local Board
Confined feeding operations will no longer be receiving building permits in Jay County.
The Inter-local Board of the Jay/Portland Building and Planning Department approved Tuesday evening a resolution to suspend issuing new permits to confined feeding operations (CFOs) until the county’s ordinance is rewritten. It also approved a recommendation to Jay County Plan Commission to increase the maximum fine on second violations of the county’s confined feeding ordinance.
The suspension will be used as a buffer heading into Thursday’s Jay County Plan Commission meeting, where it will have the opportunity to uphold the resolution or possibly enact a recommendation from Jay County Commissioners for a one-year moratorium on new CFOs and concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs).
For full coverage of the meeting, read Wednesday’s edition of The Commercial Review.
