Services for Norman Gillett, 78, 2308 Boundary Pike, Portland, are 10 a.m. Friday at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland with Pastor Michael Burk officiating. He died Monday at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
Born in Portland to Donald and Essie (Sims) Gillett, he was a 1955 graduate of Portland High School.
He married Nilda Dombol on July 26, 2006, and she survives.
A veteran of the Air National Guard 122nd Air Wing in Fort Wayne, he retired from the Portland Fire Department where he had served as fire chief and had also worked at Muncie Novelties.
Memberships include Farmland American Legion, Portland Moose Lodge, Portland Elks Lodge, Geneva V.F.W. and D.A.V.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Brian Gillett, Fort Wayne, and Chad Gillett, Bothell, Wash.; a daughter, Annette Gillett, Kendallville; two brothers, Steve Gillett and Daniel Gillett, both of Phoenix; a sister, Delayne Myers (husband: Ronald), Portland; and four grandchildren.
Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Green Park Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 211.
Memorials may be sent to Assembly of God Church or American Legion Honor Guard.
