Pet refuge event scheduled
Taking Note
The Midwest Pet Refuge in Portland will host the free community event, Pack the Park, at Hudson Family Park on Sept. 26 and 27, to raise awareness of the organization’s projects and goals.
The event will kick off with the rockabilly band Grovehill from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday.
There will also be a wine and beer garden, with food and drinks for sale.
Saturday’s events will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will include a hog roast, wine and beer garden, kids activities, a corn hole tournament, vendors and a bake sale.
Garhett and Matthew Blackford will sing cover songs and praise and worship music from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Dave Liles Band will sing country music from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Chillbillies with Suny D. and Hairbal will perform acoustic rock from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and Quincy’s Brass Band will conclude the evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
There is a fishing pond and a dog park at the facility.

Swiss Saturday
Water In2 Wine, a music ministry started on the Indiana Wesleyan University campus in 1996 with Aaron and Jonathan Ashlock, will be the free entertainment from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Swiss Village. Saturday Night at the Village is open to the public.
Fort auction
A ONE of a Kind Auction will begin at 5 p.m. Oct. 19 in Fort Recovery Middle School Auditeria. Among items to be auctioned off will be five cannonballs and a special auction for a diamond pendant necklace, donated by Jones Jewelry of Celina, Ohio.
Items to be auctioned can be viewed at fortrecoverymuseum.com.
Tickets for the auction and diamond necklace tickets are available at the Fort Recovery State Museum, from historical society or Project Recovery members or at Fort Recovery sporting events.
Proceeds will be used to maintain historic buildings in Fort Recovery.

The Indiana State Police Underwater Search and Recovery Team, which is led by a Jay County native, was recently featured on Good Morning America.
Robert May, dive team leader and a 1977 Jay County High School graduate, and his team showed GMA correspondent Matt Gutman how to escape a car that is submerged in water.
